The City of Cornwall is inviting residents to learn about sustainable living at its 6th Annual Eco Day on Saturday, April 18, 2026. The family-friendly event will take place at the Benson Centre, located at 800 Seventh Street West, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
This year’s event connects residents with over 30 participating organizations, including River Institute, the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne, the Canadian Wildlife Federation, and Bird Friendly Cornwall. Attendees can participate in a range of activities aimed at promoting environmentally friendly habits.
The Raisin Region Conservation Authority will be on-site to distribute free trees on a first-come, first-served basis as part of its 27th Annual Tree Giveaway. This initiative, supported by sponsors Ontario Power Generation and Enbridge, has helped distribute nearly 65,000 trees since 2000. Additionally, the City’s Parks Department will provide free mulch and compost, and residents can drop off electronic waste for proper recycling.
For those interested in sustainable transportation, the event will feature a hybrid transit bus demonstration and a display of one of the City’s all-electric pickup trucks. Volunteers and staff will also offer free bicycle safety checks and basic maintenance services.
The annual event is part of the City’s broader environmental commitments, which include a Climate Action Plan endorsed by Council in April 2023 following a 2021 Climate Emergency declaration. Sustainability Project Coordinator Angela Parker has served as the driving force behind the development of these climate initiatives and the growth of Eco Day.
