Community members are planning a protest in Cornwall, Ontario, on March 28, 2026, to voice concerns about provincial changes to student financial aid. The demonstration will take place at 1:00 PM outside the office of Nolan Quinn, who is the Member of Provincial Parliament for Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry and the Minister of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security.
The event is part of a movement called #OntariansStandTogether, which is responding to a shift in how the Ontario Student Assistance Program provides money to students. Under the new rules, the maximum amount of funding given as grants that do not need to be repaid has dropped from 85 per cent to 25 per cent, while the minimum amount given as loans that must be paid back has increased to 75 per cent.
Organizers, including a user known as FairplayDesigns, are encouraging local residents to gather at the constituency office located at 120 Second St. W. Nolan Quinn was re-elected to represent the community in 2025 and has stated that the previous funding system was not sustainable for the province.
The protest is set to happen two days after the provincial government releases its new budget on March 26, 2026. Similar demonstrations have taken place at other government offices across Ontario as community groups call for the province to restore previous levels of student grant funding.
