The Rural Municipality of Gimli is looking for a consulting firm to develop a Climate Adaptation Plan, with proposals due by September 11, 2026. The request for proposals (RFP 2026-05) is posted on the RM of Gimli tenders page and seeks qualified planning and environmental consultants.
The project is backed by a $70,000 grant from the Government of Canada through the Green Municipal Fund’s Local Leadership for Climate Adaptation initiative. The funding was announced August 12, 2026 as part of a $34.2-million investment to support climate resilience in 141 municipal projects across Canada.
Gimli faces specific climate risks, including rising flooding dangers from intensified storms and changing precipitation patterns. The community, on the western shore of Lake Winnipeg, held climate adaptation workshops in 2024 that highlighted these concerns for the Interlake region.
The Local Leadership for Climate Adaptation program is investing over $530 million to support more than 1,400 climate activities by 2031, noting that climate adaptation saves up to $15 for every dollar spent. Four other Manitoba municipalities received similar funding: the RM of Springfield, Municipality of Rhineland, Municipality of Grassland, and Municipality of Clanwilliam-Erickson.
Gimli has also posted a separate recreation tender (RFT 2026-19) for flooring replacement in the Gimli Recreation Centre Arena foyer, with an August 31 closing date. Interested contractors and planning firms can review both opportunities on the RM of Gimli website.
