As of 4:00 p.m. Monday, the temperature in Gimli sat at 21.4 C with a humidex of 23. Winds were from the southwest at 27 km/h gusting to 49 km/h, and the barometric pressure was falling, signalling the approach of the wet system. No weather alerts are currently in effect for the area.
Tuesday, September 1, will bring a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 24 C and a humidex of 28. The UV index is forecast to reach 6, which is considered high, so anyone spending time outdoors should use sun protection. Overnight Tuesday will be partly cloudy with a low of 13 C.
The rest of the week looks seasonably mild and above normal for early September, when highs typically reach 21 to 22 C. Environment Canada’s extended forecast for the Selkirk-Gimli region shows clearing skies on Wednesday with a high of 27 C, showers Thursday with a high of 26 C, then clearing again Friday with a high of 27 C. Saturday and Sunday are expected to bring a mix of sun and cloud with highs of 28 C and 25 C respectively.
This changeable pattern matches the broader summer outlook for Manitoba, which has seen periods of warmth broken up by showers and locally heavy rainfall under an El Nino influence.
