Hinton’s Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) has two free community events coming up in August and September, giving residents a chance to connect through stories and learn about local programs. The first is a storytelling showcase on August 18, followed by the 25th Annual Registration and Information Fair on September 2.
The Stories of Resilience event runs from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. at the Northern Rockies Museum, located at 225 Gregg Ave. It features original artworks and stories from nine community members who took part in a program exploring climate resilience. The project was a partnership between The Resilience Institute and the Canadian Red Cross, with local artist Kristen Braun helping create the works. The program ran from November 2025 to June 2026.
Then on September 2, the 25th Annual Registration and Information Fair takes place at the Hinton Centre from 6 to 8 p.m. Families can meet with local organizations, learn about programs and services, and register for activities all in one place. Organizations interested in hosting a table must register by August 26. The cost is $20 for non-profits and $40 for for-profit groups.
Both events are organized by Hinton FCSS, a municipal department that has served the community for nearly 40 years. FCSS programs focus on prevention in areas such as homelessness, poverty, domestic violence, and mental health. The storytelling event is part of the Roots for Resilience initiative, funded through the Government of Alberta’s Municipal Climate Change Action Centre.
Admission to both events is free, and all residents are welcome.
