A dairy farmer from Kensington, Prince Edward Island, has been named the Atlantic region’s top young farmer for 2026. Deanna Doctor of Redview Jerseys received the honour from Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmers (COYF) program during a regional event held July 19-20 in Wallbrook, Nova Scotia, with the announcement made on July 22, 2026.
Doctor has spent the past decade working alongside her father Alain Remond to grow the family dairy operation. Together, they expanded the land base and milk quota while switching the herd from Holsteins to purebred registered Jerseys. The farm now runs 300 acres with about 67 purebred Jersey cows and has kept a closed herd for seven years.
The farm also became one of the first in North America to use eShepherd virtual fencing technology for actively milking cows. While managing herd health, milking, and grazing, Doctor is raising four children and serves on the boards of Jersey Canada and the Kensington Co-op. The recognition comes during the United Nations’ International Year of the Woman Farmer, a designation also formally recognized in PEI for 2026.
Doctor will now advance to the national competition in Vancouver, British Columbia, from November 25 to 29, 2026, where she will represent the Atlantic region. The national winner will be selected at that event.
