Monday kicks off the week with sunny skies and a high of 24°C. The humidex will make it feel more like 28, and the UV index is expected to reach 8, which is very high. That means anyone spending time outside should take precautions: wear sunscreen with at least SPF 30, put on UV-blocking sunglasses, and try to stay in the shade between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. when the sun is strongest.
Things change on Tuesday. Clouds will increase through the morning, and showers are likely to start late in the morning. There’s also a risk of a thunderstorm in the afternoon. The wind will be strong, gusting from the south at 50 km/h before shifting to the west and gusting to 60 km/h. Despite the rain, it will stay warm at 23°C and feel muggy with a humidex of 30.
Wednesday brings a mix of sun and cloud with a 30 per cent chance of showers and a high of 22°C. After that, the rest of the week looks beautiful. Thursday will be sunny with a high of 25°C. Friday stays sunny and warms up to 26°C. By Saturday, expect a mix of sun and cloud and a high of 27°C. These conditions are ideal for enjoying Kingston’s outdoor spaces, from the sandy beach at Grass Creek Park to the waterfront at Lake Ontario Park.
The high UV levels and humidex values mean people should stay hydrated and take breaks from the sun. Environment Canada recommends reapplying sunscreen every two hours, or more often if you’re swimming or sweating. With the humidex pushing into the high 20s and low 30s, it’s also important to watch for signs of heat illness.
