The Kingston Symphony has launched a new fundraising campaign called Play it Forward, aiming to collect $25,000 by May 31, 2026, to support programming for the upcoming season. The orchestra, which is currently celebrating its 72nd year, is seeking community support as it prepares to wrap up its 2025-2026 season.
To encourage donations, an anonymous donor has pledged to match all contributions made before the May 31 deadline, up to a total of $10,000. Additionally, the symphony has introduced a visual way to track progress; for every $5,000 raised, a new dynamic marking will light up at the venue, serving as a visible milestone for those who contribute.
The campaign launch coincides with the final performance of the season, which features Mahler’s Symphony No. 5. This concert will take place on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. at the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts. The event concludes a significant year for the organization, marking the 10th season under the leadership of Music Director Evan Mitchell.
The symphony, a professional orchestra founded in 1953, maintains a long-standing partnership with the Kingston Grand Theatre, where it has been a resident company since 1964. Its operations are supported by a variety of partners, including the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council, the City of Kingston, and the Kingston Arts Council.
Residents interested in supporting the campaign can donate online at the Kingston Symphony website, by calling 613-546-9729, or by visiting the Kingston Grand Theatre box office at 218 Princess Street.
