Leduc County has launched the first round of public input for a major employment-area plan covering 4,600 acres west of Edmonton International Airport. The Whitemud Landing project, north of Highway 39 and south of Highway 19, covers 60 parcels and is meant to secure land for future non-residential development and jobs.

The county wants to hear from direct landowners and developers first, with one-on-one meetings running from May through September. A second phase of broader community engagement is set for January to April 2027. Area maps, a transportation study, answers to common questions and presentation slides are all posted at YourSayLeducCounty.com.

Mayor Tanni Doblanko said planning for land west of the airport is driven by how quickly the existing Nisku Business Park is filling up. Nisku spans 5,050 acres, hosts more than 400 businesses and employs over 6,000 workers, making it one of the largest industrial parks in Canada. Doblanko expects the Nisku industrial area to be mostly full within five to seven years.

The county has set aside $380,000 in its 2026 budget for planning documents to shape Whitemud Landing. In March, Leduc County and the Town of Devon signed an agreement to work together on future water and wastewater servicing for the area and nearby growth lands.

The plan aims to keep current farming activity in place until development actually happens. County senior planner Julie Vizbar is the main contact for the project and can be reached at 780-979-6196.
