Community members in Leduc are invited to help preserve a local natural landmark during the fourth annual Telford Lake Cleanup on April 19, 2026. The event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., asks residents to meet at Telford House, located at 4907 46 St., to remove litter and debris from the shoreline.
Organized by the Leduc Brewing Company and the Leduc Wildlife Conservation Society, the cleanup aims to protect the wetland habitat that serves as a nesting and migration site for diverse wildlife, including pelicans, herons, and various waterfowl. Organizers are encouraging volunteers to bring their own work gloves and wear sturdy boots for the day, while noting that litter grabbers are also recommended.
Telford Lake is recognized by the City of Leduc as an environmentally significant area and a key attraction within its long-term strategic plan. The shallow lake, which spans approximately 3 kilometres, is a popular destination featuring an 8.5-kilometre paved trail system and a scenic boardwalk over the water.
This initiative follows a history of community-led environmental efforts in the area. Past cleanup projects have successfully removed heavy items such as tires and rebar from the lake and its surrounding trails. The upcoming event is open to all residents, including families and those walking with their dogs, as part of a continued effort to maintain the health of the local ecosystem.
