Youth in Lethbridge, Alberta, can participate in a free basketball camp on March 28, 2026, hosted by local emergency workers and the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns.
The event is open to teenagers between the ages of 12 and 17. It aims to help participants develop their athletic skills while building positive connections with local first responders in a friendly setting.
This camp is organized through a program called Off the Record. The City of Lethbridge started this project to create informal ways for youth to interact with police, fire, and medical staff.
The initiative launched in the summer of 2024 after a local study found that young people needed more free social activities. Since then, the city has used sports like soccer and hockey to bring the community together.
To join the camp, families must sign up through the Building Safer Communities team. Varsity athletes from the university will be on hand to provide coaching and mentorship for all skill levels.
