Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lethbridge and District is preparing for the return of McHappy Day, a national fundraiser set to take place on Wednesday, May 6, 2026. The annual initiative, which marks the 32nd year of the event in Canada, aims to raise money to support youth mentoring programs and Ronald McDonald House Charities.
The local organization serves a significant number of youth in the region, having provided mentoring relationships to 1,473 children in Lethbridge and surrounding communities in 2024. These programs are vital for the organization, which has seen ongoing demand for its services.
McHappy Day serves as a major fundraising effort for the national network. Since the first Ronald McDonald House opened in 1981, McDonald’s Canada has raised over $111.3 million to assist local children’s charities and families across the country. In the past year alone, the charity has supported more than 32,000 families from 2,900 communities.
Southern Alberta communities have previously shown strong support for this initiative, contributing $60,930 during the 2025 event. Residents interested in learning more about the 2026 fundraiser or how to get involved—including purchasing 50/50 tickets or accessing promotional coupons valid in Coaldale, Taber, Langdon, and Brooks—can contact Sam Machan, the organization’s Recruitment, Admin, and Teen Mentoring Caseworker, at 403.328.9355 or by email at [email protected].
