Milton newcomers looking to build careers in Canada can now access a free, full-time program that blends English language training with job search skills. Centre for Skills has launched the Community Bridge Program, a 12-week initiative funded by the Regional Municipality of Halton.
The program is designed for adult newcomers in Halton Region who have at least Canadian Language Benchmarks Level 4 English, an intermediate-beginner level. Sessions run Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., taught by certified instructors. The curriculum covers resume writing, interview practice, AI tools for job searching, LinkedIn optimization, and Canadian workplace culture, alongside workplace-focused English.
Registration is open now for the September 2026 session in Burlington. A second session will run from January to March 2027 at a Halton location to be confirmed, with registration opening in November 2026. For Milton residents, the program removes cost and language barriers to entering the local job market, where advanced manufacturing, transportation, and professional services sectors are growing.
Halton Region welcomed 7,168 immigrants between July 2023 and July 2024, and Milton remains the fastest-growing municipality in the region. Ontario employers with 25 or more employees can no longer require Canadian experience in job postings as of January 2026, making programs like this more timely. “This program gives newcomers enhanced language and workplace knowledge and skills to help them succeed in their careers and feel connected to their community,” said Ellen Faraday, Programs Manager at Centre for Skills.
