Residents in Almonte Ward can expect some temporary changes to their tap water this fall as the Municipality of Mississippi Mills conducts its annual watermain flushing program from September 14 to October 30, 2026. The work will take place Monday to Friday between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.
The flushing, required under provincial regulations, helps remove sediment that builds up in watermains over time and maintains the quality of the drinking water system. During the program, residents may notice temporary drops in water pressure, red or discoloured water, or brief interruptions to normal water service.
If residents notice discoloured water, the municipality advises avoiding drinking it or washing laundry until it clears. People should wait 20 to 30 minutes to allow crews to finish flushing nearby, then run one cold water tap for several minutes until the water runs clear.
Almonte Ward’s drinking water is supplied by five municipal groundwater wells, serving approximately 5,350 people. The municipality reminds residents that this is routine maintenance and any water quality issues are temporary.
