The Rural Municipality of Morris has fully closed Road 2E between 27N and 28N because a repair platform is taking up so much space that vehicles can no longer squeeze by safely. People who live east of the bridge must now use Road 28 to get to their homes until the work is finished.
The closure took effect immediately after crews discovered the platform on the Riverside Road bridge left no safe room for cars or trucks to pass. In a notice posted to the RM of Morris website, officials said the bridge had become a safety hazard for both the public and construction workers. “Local traffic will have to access their residence from RD 28 as they will no longer be able to use the bridge,” the notice states.
This is the latest twist in a repair project that started on March 25, 2026, when the bridge was first reduced to one lane. Rail installation began on April 20, and a lane closure was planned for mid-June. The full road shutdown catches nearby residents off guard, adding extra travel time for anyone living east of the bridge.
The bridge trouble comes as the RM is already stretched thin dealing with a windstorm that hit last month, clogging ditches and culverts with debris and triggering a local state of emergency over flooding fears. Council has put $500,000 toward cleanup and is asking the province for up to $2 million more. Reeve Scott Siemens has said about 200 sites need attention across the municipality.
The RM has not said how long the bridge repairs will take, only that the closure will stay in place until work is complete. Residents are being asked to plan for the detour and to watch for updates on the municipal website.
