Residents of Sperling now have access to their mailboxes again following an announcement from the Rural Municipality of Morris. The mailboxes have been reopened and are located beside the community message board in town.
Sperling is a small farming community with a population of approximately 100 to 200 people. Located about 56 kilometers southwest of Winnipeg, the community has a history dating back to 1880 and remains home to Sperling Industries Ltd., a steel fabrication and machining business.
This update regarding local postal access comes as Canada Post continues a national transition toward community mailboxes. In March 2026, the federal service announced it is moving forward with plans to convert remaining door-to-door delivery addresses to community mailboxes, citing cost efficiencies. According to Canada Post, delivering to a community mailbox costs approximately $162 per address, compared to $284 for door-to-door service.
The restoration of the local mailboxes was confirmed in an April 2026 update on the municipality’s website. Residents seeking further information can find details regarding the status of the mailboxes through the official Rural Municipality of Morris page.
