Mount Pearl is in for a stretch of summer heat this week, with temperatures expected to climb well above the seasonal norm, according to Environment Canada. The warmest days will be Tuesday and Wednesday, offering a welcome break from the often-cool July weather on the Avalon Peninsula.
On Monday, the forecast showed a high of 20°C with a 60 percent chance of showers in the evening, but conditions are set to improve quickly. Tuesday is expected to be mainly sunny with a high of 24°C, and Wednesday will see a mix of sun and cloud and a high of 26°C. That is about 4 to 6 degrees warmer than the normal July high of 20°C for Mount Pearl, based on Environment Canada’s climate normals.
The warm spell will not last long. Cloudy conditions are expected to return by Friday, and Saturday brings a 40 percent chance of showers with a high of only 19°C. The Humidex could reach 27 on Tuesday, and the UV index is forecast to be high at 7 for the first part of the week. Residents spending time outside should take sun protection seriously.
Current conditions at St. John’s International Airport, the main weather station for the area, showed partly cloudy skies and a temperature of 18.8°C at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, with west winds gusting to 36 km/h. The July daytime maximum temperatures in Newfoundland and Labrador normally average around 20°C, making this week’s forecast a notable departure from the typical pattern.
