Residents of Niverville who want to run for mayor or town council have a one-week window to file their nomination papers from September 16 to 22, 2026. The town will hold its general municipal election on Wednesday, October 28, with one mayor and four council seats up for grabs.
Mayor Myron Dyck has confirmed he will seek re-election for a fourth term. Dyck has served on council for 18 years, including as mayor since 2014. Councillor Bill Fast, however, announced he will not run again, leaving at least one open seat on the council.
The Niverville election page shows the nomination period is the only time candidates can file their papers with Senior Election Official Audrey Neufeld. Candidates must collect signatures from at least 25 eligible voters on their nomination forms and disclose any prior criminal or drug convictions.
Anyone interested in running should note they must register with the election official before spending money or accepting donations. For mayoral candidates, registration opened May 1, while council candidates could register starting June 30. Both deadlines close September 22.
Residents who want to vote by mail will be able to apply starting July 30, 2026, when applications for a sealed envelope ballot open. With Niverville growing fast – the 2021 census showed nearly 6,000 people and a 29 per cent jump since 2016 – election issues like development and infrastructure are expected to draw attention in the campaign.
