Niverville and the R.M. of Hanover are under a heat warning this week as humidex values climb toward 40°C. Environment Canada issued the alert at 4:23 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, warning that daytime humidex levels will reach 38 or higher, with overnight lows staying in the upper teens.
The agency says the sultry conditions will linger for several days, with Wednesday, July 29, expected to be the hottest. The forecast calls for sunny skies and a high of 34°C, but the humidex will push that to 43. The UV index will be 8, or very high.
Warm nights are a key concern. When overnight lows only dip to 16-21°C, the body has little chance to cool down, raising the risk of heat-related illness. This warning covers over 40,000 people living in one of Manitoba’s fastest-growing regions.
Provincial health officials urge everyone to drink plenty of water, avoid the sun during peak afternoon hours, and check on neighbours who may be more vulnerable. Heat illness can quickly progress from heat exhaustion to heat stroke. People at highest risk include older adults, pregnant people, young children, those with chronic health conditions, and anyone working or exercising outdoors.
Manitoba’s Heat Alert and Response System says a warning is triggered for southern Manitoba when daytime highs reach 32°C, overnight lows stay at 16°C, and humidex values hit 38 for two days in a row. The current forecast easily meets those marks.
