Olds College of Agriculture & Technology honoured three former students for their career achievements during its annual Hall of Fame and Hall of Merit ceremony on July 18, 2026. The induction, held at the Alumni Centre, was part of a larger reunion that drew 165 graduates back to campus.
Ed Shaw and Charlene Scott were named to the Hall of Fame, while Brianna Elliot received the Hall of Merit award. The Hall of Fame and Hall of Merit program, run by the Olds College Alumni Association, recognizes graduates who have made significant contributions to their industries and communities. The Hall of Merit is for alumni under age 40, while Hall of Fame inductees are 41 and older.
Shaw graduated in 1971 from the Agricultural Mechanics program. His career took him from farm manager and crop production specialist to international agricultural work before returning to the family farm. He later became a long-time instructor at Olds College after filling in for a colleague on medical leave.
Scott, a 2007 Arboriculture major, built her career in Edmonton’s tree-care sector. An ISA Certified Arborist and Director of Operations for Arboriculture Canada Training and Education, she has been active in arboriculture for nearly two decades. Her professionalism helped make Olds College a destination for aspiring arborists, especially women.
Elliot, a 2015 Agriculture Management graduate, runs a small cow-calf operation and consulting business near Sundre. At Olds College, she leads projects at the Technology Access Centre for Livestock Production, focusing on climate change resilience in grazing, soil health, and water monitoring. She was also a finalist in the Canadian Cattle Young Leaders program and received the 2025 Reg Schellenberg Next Generation Legacy Award.
The ceremony continued a long-standing tradition at the college, which was founded in 1913. Alumni in attendance represented classes from the 1950s through the early 2000s.
