Olds, Alberta, is set for several days of well-above-normal warmth and sunshine this week. According to Environment Canada, daytime highs will climb to 28°C Tuesday, then reach 30°C by Saturday before a sharp cooldown Sunday brings temperatures back to 19°C.
A fog advisory was in effect Tuesday morning for Mountain View County near Olds and Didsbury. Widespread fog reduced visibility to near zero in some spots early in the day but was expected to dissipate by mid-morning. The advisory had been issued at 7:17 a.m. MDT.
The rest of the week will be mainly sunny. Wednesday will be mainly sunny but cooler, with a high of 23°C. Thursday and Friday remain sunny at 25°C and 29°C, respectively. The UV index is expected to stay at 7, or high, through Tuesday and Wednesday, so residents will want to protect their skin if they are outside for extended periods.
The seasonal July high in Olds is 23°C, meaning daytime readings this week are running five to seven degrees above normal. Overnight lows are forecast mainly in the teens, though a couple of nights could dip to single digits.
Sunday and Monday will see a mix of sun and cloud and a high of 19°C. No watches or warnings are in effect for the area beyond Tuesday’s fog advisory. Local residents can plan outdoor activities for much of the week before the cooldown arrives.
