Residents in Orangeville can pick up free compost for their gardens this coming Saturday, May 23, 2026, as Dufferin County Waste Services hosts a giveaway event at the Orangeville Farmers’ Market.
The giveaway will take place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking area behind the town hall at 87 Broadway Ave. Each household is eligible to receive one blue box-sized amount of compost on a first come, first served basis. Residents are encouraged to bring their own containers to collect the material.
This compost is created from food and yard waste collected through the county’s green bin program. By processing this organic material, the county provides a nutrient-rich soil additive that can be used to help improve home gardens, lawns, and houseplants.
The event coincides with the 35th season of the farmers’ market, which is organized by the Downtown Orangeville Business Improvement Area. The market runs every Saturday through October 17, 2026, on Second Street at Broadway.
