The Town of Orangeville is introducing new designated drop-off zones for students at Orangeville District Secondary School to help improve traffic safety. Starting May 11, 2026, these zones will be located on Matthew Street and Fead Street.
Drivers using these new designated areas will be limited to a 10-minute maximum for student drop-offs and pick-ups. The town has clarified that no long-term parking will be allowed in these locations. Additionally, stopping or parking will be prohibited entirely on Sunset and Faulkner streets in the school zone area.
These changes follow years of community advocacy regarding traffic safety near the school, which serves approximately 1,250 students. Local resident Noel Ramsey first raised concerns in October 2023, specifically noting the risks to nearby elementary students who walk through the area without sidewalks. In February 2026, the town council adopted several other traffic control measures, such as new stop signs, to improve safety for pedestrians and drivers.
Mayor Lisa Post described the new zones as part of an ongoing commitment to the area, noting that this is one of several steps being taken to enhance safety around the high school. These updates are part of broader traffic management efforts overseen by the Upper Grand District School Board and local municipal leadership.
