Residents in Orangeville, Ontario, interested in running for local office can begin filing their nominations on May 1, 2026. The nomination period for the municipal and school board election will remain open until August 21, 2026, at 2 p.m.
The town is seeking candidates for seven council positions, which include one mayor, one deputy mayor, and five councillors. Additionally, voters will elect trustees to represent four different school boards: the English Language Public, English Language Catholic, French Language Public, and French Language Catholic boards.
To qualify as a candidate, individuals must be Canadian citizens who are at least 18 years old and eligible to vote in the municipality. Prospective candidates are required to submit a nomination paper and a document containing at least 25 endorsements. There is also a filing fee of $100 for councillor and school board trustee positions, while the fee for the head of council is $200.
The Town of Orangeville is hosting several information sessions for those considering a run for office. These include a virtual session on April 29 at 6:30 p.m., an in-person meeting on May 6 at 7 p.m. at the Monora Park Pavilion, and another in-person session on May 7 at 10 a.m. at the Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex.
The municipal election is set for October 26, 2026. New for this term, the town is introducing a hybrid voting method, which allows residents to choose between casting a traditional paper ballot in person or voting online from any location with internet access. Those elected will serve a four-year term beginning in November 2026.
