Registration is now open for the 2026 Jim Sloan Memorial Ball Hockey Tournament, which will take place on May 23, 2026, at the Pembroke Memorial Centre in Pembroke, Ontario.
The annual event invites players of all ages to compete in three distinct age divisions. The youth division is open to ages 7 to 12 with a team fee of $85. The intermediate division for ages 13 to 15 has a fee of $110, and the adult division for ages 16 to 99 costs $135 per team. Interested teams can register through the City of Pembroke online booking system. Only the team captain needs to register and pay the entry fee, after which they will provide the full roster information.
Organized by the City of Pembroke Parks and Recreation Department and sponsored by Bogies Bar, the tournament format features 4-on-4 games with goalies. Each game lasts 20 minutes, and every team is guaranteed at least three games. Each roster must include between five and ten players. Winners in each division will receive the Hockey Town Cup and individual prize bags.
The tournament honors the legacy of Jim Sloan, who passed away in 2018. Sloan was a dedicated community member who served with the local police and helped establish Bogies Bar at the Pembroke Memorial Centre. He was also a passionate supporter of youth sports and served on the board of the BGC Renfrew County. Proceeds from the tournament benefit the organization, which provides programs for local youth. Last year, the event raised $1,000 for these local initiatives.
Pembroke is officially recognized as Hockey Town Canada, a title reflecting the community’s deep history and connection to the sport. The tournament serves as a reminder of that spirit while bringing the community together for a day of friendly competition.
