Donors have contributed $259,885 toward a $600,000 goal to bring a new, high-precision ultrasound machine to Ridge Meadows Hospital in British Columbia, a move aimed at speeding up cancer diagnoses for local residents.
The Ridge Meadows Hospital Foundation is currently raising funds for the ExactVu Micro Ultrasound system. This technology offers imaging resolution three times clearer than standard ultrasound equipment, allowing for faster and more accurate prostate biopsies. By providing immediate imaging, the device is expected to help patients avoid long waits for magnetic resonance imaging, shifting the timeline for a diagnosis from months to just days.
This equipment is the first step in a larger plan to bring advanced diagnostic tools to the hospital’s urology clinic. It is a critical addition for the region, as prostate cancer remains the most common cancer among men in British Columbia. Health officials estimate that 4,165 people will be diagnosed with the disease in the province this year alone, and one in six men will face a diagnosis during their lifetime.
To help reach the remaining $340,000 needed for the machine, the foundation is hosting the inaugural RevUp! motorsport fundraiser on April 26, 2026, at Mission Raceway Park. The event is presented by the West Coast Auto Group with support from several local partners, including Marv Jones Honda. Proceeds from the event will support the Men’s Health Initiative Fund and the ongoing ultrasound campaign.
The hospital serves approximately 120,000 residents across Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows, and the community can continue to donate to the campaign through the foundation to help close the remaining funding gap.
