The City of Pitt Meadows officially moved to its own independent police service on April 1, 2026, marking the end of a long-standing partnership with the Ridge Meadows detachment. The transition to an autonomous detachment, the first of its kind in British Columbia, follows a 2019 review that recommended the city establish its own police force to better meet local needs.
The new police headquarters is located at 12486 Harris Road. The 19,000 square foot facility was built with a budget of $23.5 million. While the transition to this new building is ongoing, residents can still access front counter police services at the Community Policing Office located behind City Hall at 104-12027 Harris Road.
The move to an independent service is expected to increase the number of police officers working in the city. Pitt Meadows will now have one Staff Sergeant Commander and an additional 22 officers dedicated to the community. This change increases the number of officers on each shift from two to five. Additionally, nine support staff roles will now report directly to the city.
This change was made possible after the provincial government approved the separation in 2021 following three years of planning and consultation. As part of the final steps, the City of Maple Ridge repealed the agreement that previously allowed the two cities to share policing costs.
Residents will have a chance to tour the new facility and meet the officers later this year. The city is planning a public open house for the fall of 2026. Anyone needing to contact the new detachment for non-emergency matters can call 778-670-9010.
