Port Alberni, British Columbia resident Chase Nicklin has started his first appearance for Team Canada at the 2026 Winter Paralympic Games in Milano Cortina, Italy. The local athlete was chosen to represent the country in Para snowboarding events throughout the international competition.
On March 8, 2026, Nicklin raced in the men’s snowboard cross event. He finished the competition in fourth place during his quarter-final heat.
Nicklin is being mentored by teammate Tyler Turner, who won a gold medal for Canada at the 2022 games. The Port Alberni resident is one of five snowboarders named to the national team by the Canadian Paralympic Committee.
Member of Parliament Gord Johns shared his support for the local athlete online. He noted that the achievement is a testament to the determination and grit found within the community.
The Winter Paralympic Games will continue until March 15, 2026. Residents can follow the progress of the national team as they finish their remaining events in Italy.
