Families in Prince Rupert can look forward to a day of free activities as the city hosts its second annual Port Community Day on May 3, 2026. Taking place from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, the event will be held at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre and the Earl Mah Aquatic Centre.
The celebration offers a variety of free, family-friendly programming throughout the complex. The schedule includes open gym time from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm and learn-to-play pickleball sessions hosted by the Prince Rupert Pickleball Society from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Other activities beginning at 11:30 am include a hotdog lunch, bouncy castles, hockey mini sticks, mini putt, and a crafts table. Later in the afternoon, local shop Good Times Games & Electronics will facilitate fantasy gaming, followed by a public swim from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
The event is made possible through sponsorship from the Prince Rupert Port Authority, Ray-Mont Logistics, AltaGas, the Pacific Pilotage Authority, DP World, Pembina, and Trigon Pacific Terminals. Through its community investment efforts, the port authority has dedicated almost $21 million to more than 120 local initiatives over the past 15 years.
The city-run recreation department manages these facilities and continues to offer the Recreation Access Program, which provides a 90 per cent subsidy on fees for children and youth to ensure local activities remain accessible to all residents.
