The North Coast Regional District Board met on February 27, 2026, in Prince Rupert, British Columbia, to update local regulations and advocate for enhanced community services. During the meeting, officials focused on improving how residents receive public notices and how the region prepares for wildfire season.
The Board officially adopted Public Notice Bylaw No. 712, 2026, to make public notices more accessible and reliable for all residents. Additionally, B.A. Blackwell & Associates Ltd. presented a completed Community Wildfire Resiliency Plan specifically designed for those living in Electoral Areas A and C.
To support local infrastructure, the Board is requesting improved road maintenance on Haida Gwaii from the province and advocating for restructuring regional transit services. They also sent a formal request to Global Ports Holding (operating as Prince Rupert Cruise Port) and the Port of Prince Rupert for new public washroom facilities to better manage the high volume of visitors arriving by cruise ship.
On February 28, 2026, the Board held a special meeting to review the proposed 2026-2030 financial plan. This five-year plan will determine how property taxes are allocated for local projects and community programs through the end of the decade.
The Port Edward Historical Society also provided an update on ongoing restoration work at the North Pacific Cannery. These updates assist the Board in monitoring progress on historical preservation efforts across the region.
