Prince Rupert Fire Rescue responded to a boat fire at Rushbrook Harbour in the early morning hours of April 30, 2021. No injuries were reported.
Firefighters were called to the scene at 4:38 a.m. and arrived to find a 45-foot recreational boat engulfed in heavy flames and experiencing explosions. Crews attacked the fire aggressively using firefighting foam and multiple hose lines.
Rushbrook Harbour is managed by the Port Edward Harbour Authority and can accommodate up to 300 vessels each year. The facility is equipped with a fire suppression system and has trained staff on site.
The Prince Rupert Fire Rescue is a full-time career department with 25 personnel. The department handles more than 1,500 calls annually and maintains response times under five minutes for most locations within city limits.
While the boat was a total loss, the dock and nearby vessels were not damaged. The cause of the fire is not known at this time.
