The City of Prince Rupert is now accepting nominations for the 2026 Civic Recognition Awards to honour residents who have made significant contributions to the community. Submissions are open until 4:30 p.m. on Friday, June 5, 2026.
The awards program seeks to recognize individuals across six levels, including the Achievement Award, Civic Appreciation Award, Civic Merit Award, and the highest honour, the Freedom of the City. The city also presents the Sgt. William Booth Award for Valour to those who have demonstrated unusual humanitarian effort, often while placing themselves at personal risk.
To be considered, all nominations must be submitted using the official nomination form. Completed forms can be dropped off at City Hall, located at 424-3rd Avenue West, or sent digitally via email to [email protected].
The recognition program is overseen by the current city council, which includes Mayor Herb Pond and Councillors Barry Cunningham, Teri Forster, Wade Niesh, Gurvinder Randhawa, Nick Adey, and Reid Skelton-Morven. The awards continue a local tradition of highlighting community excellence, following past recipients such as Barbara Gruber for the Freedom of the City and various community members recognized for their humanitarian actions and public service.
