Prince Rupert will see a wet and windy start to the week as a prolonged stretch of rain and showers moves over the North Coast, according to Environment Canada.
Rainfall amounts of 20 to 30 mm are expected Monday night, with southeast winds reaching 40 km/h and gusting up to 70 km/h over exposed coastal sections this evening. No weather alerts are currently in effect for the region.
The extended forecast shows periods of rain and showers continuing through at least Sunday, July 12. Daytime highs will hover between 13C and 14C, staying below the seasonal normal of 16C. Overnight lows are expected to drop to between 9C and 11C.
Rain is nothing new for Canada’s wettest city. Prince Rupert typically sees measurable precipitation on about 240 days a year and averages between 2,620 mm and 3,060 mm annually. The cool, wet pattern this week is not unusual, but it may affect outdoor plans and coastal activities.
Residents and visitors should be prepared for wet conditions throughout the week and stay tuned to Environment Canada for any changes to the forecast.
