Registration is now open for the 2026 Kivalliq Energy Forum, bringing together industry leaders and community members in Rankin Inlet, Nunavut, from September 19 to 21. Hosted by the Kivalliq Chamber of Commerce, the annual event offers three days of sessions on sustainable power, new technologies, and energy opportunities that matter to the region.

The 2026 forum continues in Rankin Inlet, where the very first gathering was held in December 2019 and where the 2025 edition also took place. This year’s event continues the tradition of connecting people with the experts and policymakers driving change in the Kivalliq.
The Kivalliq region is home to several major energy projects. The Kivalliq Hydro-Fibre Link, led by the Inuit-owned Nukik Corporation, proposes a 1,200-kilometre transmission line that would bring clean power and high-speed internet from Manitoba to five communities, including Rankin Inlet. In Naujaat, the Ikayuut Solar and Energy Storage Project is expected to start commercial operations in March 2026, supplying about 30 per cent of the community’s yearly electricity. The Government of Canada has invested $2.8 million to advance the hydro-fibre link, adding to earlier planning funds of $11.6 million.
At the 2025 forum, discussions included liquid natural gas opportunities, with a keynote on a share model that would give First Nations, Inuit, and Métis 90 per cent ownership. Organizers say this year’s event will continue to spotlight practical solutions and partnerships that can reduce reliance on diesel and create local benefits.
