Youth in Rankin Inlet, Nunavut, can learn traditional Inuit games at a day camp later this month. The Hamlet of Rankin Inlet is hosting an Inuit Games Day Camp for children and youth from July 21 to 25, 2026 at the Community Hall.
Danica Taylor will lead the five-day program. A mini competition for all ages is planned for the final day on July 25. The camp gives young people a chance to practice games like the knuckle hop, airplane planking, and various high kicks – activities that have been part of Inuit culture for generations.
These games were originally developed to build the strength, endurance, and agility needed for hunting and survival in the Arctic. Today, they remain an important way for Inuit youth to connect with their heritage. The camp comes just months after the 2026 Arctic Winter Games in Whitehorse, where athletes from across the North competed in Inuit games among other sports.
