The Judo Saskatchewan Provincial Championships will return to Regina this year, with competition taking place at the mâmawêyatitân centre on April 24 and 25, 2026.
The event will feature athletes competing in various divisions, ranging from U8 to senior and veteran categories, along with technical championships. The tournament is being led by newly appointed Judo Saskatchewan President Aidan Skaf, who is serving as the tournament director.
Located at 3355 6th Avenue in North Central Regina, the host facility opened in 2017 as an integrated community hub. The site combines recreational spaces with a high school, library, and community policing services. The upcoming championship serves as a new chapter for hosting provincial sporting events at this location.
Participants interested in competing have until April 18, 2026, to register, with fees set at $40 per division. The tournament follows a period of leadership transition within the provincial organization, which saw the resignation of former long-serving president T.V. Taylor and the treasurer in December 2025.
While the judo championships are taking place at the mâmawêyatitân centre, other sporting events are occurring in the city that same weekend. Specifically, the Saskatchewan Racquetball Championships are scheduled for April 25 and 26 at The Nest Health Centre, located at 2400 13th Avenue.
The provincial judo community is preparing for this year’s competition following a significant loss. The passing of 21-year-old athlete Nathaniel Russell Lyons Burton, who was a member of the Shinmura and University of Regina judo communities, has been noted as a profound impact on the province’s judo practitioners.
Looking ahead to the upcoming tournament, organizers are building on the momentum of recent events, including the Sask Open held in January. That event drew 417 athletes and 580 total entries, marking the largest edition of that competition in its history.
