Bus riders in Regina should prepare for changes to their commute as a new detour for the Route 40 Albert North Express went into effect on Monday, April 20, 2026. The route adjustment, which is expected to last until 5:00 PM on October 31, 2026, is necessary due to ongoing construction work in the area.
During this period, buses will travel via 9th Avenue North, Albert Street, 6th Avenue North, and Argyle Street North before returning to their regular route. The City of Regina advises passengers to check TransitLive for real-time updates regarding bus stops and timing while the detour is active.
The change comes as the city continues work on several major infrastructure projects. This includes the $17.6 million Albert Street North Overpass Upgrade Project, which is slated for completion in October 2026. Additionally, lane restrictions on the northbound curb lane of Albert Street began this week to accommodate the Speaker’s Corner Drainage Renewal Project. That work is an emergency response to a 2023 failure of a storm pipe installed in 1948 near the Albert Memorial Bridge.
These transit changes follow a 10% fare increase that took effect on April 8, 2026. Electronic single-ride fares rose from $2.90 to $3.20, while cash fares are now $3.50. The Route 40 Albert Street Express serves several areas of the city, connecting northern locations like Northgate Mall and the local Superstore to the downtown core.
