The Regina and District Chamber of Commerce has added two events to its spring calendar that will bring provincial political figures to the city to discuss energy policy and economic issues.
The first event is a breakfast taking place on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at the Ramada Plaza Hotel Regina, located at 1818 Victoria Ave. Doors will open for the event from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM.
The chamber is also hosting an informal discussion session on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at The Keg Steakhouse and Bar – South, located at 4265 Albert Street. This event, which runs from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM, will feature NDP Leader Carla Beck and MLA Aleana Young.
The discussion is expected to focus on the provincial opposition’s energy strategy, known as the Grid and Growth Plan. Released by the Saskatchewan NDP on April 8, 2026, the 21-page plan proposes phasing out coal power while expanding natural gas, wind, solar, battery storage, and eventual nuclear energy. The plan also includes building 500kV transmission corridors, which the party claims would lead to lower electricity rates for residents.
The proposals have drawn criticism from the provincial government. Saskatchewan Party Minister Jeremy Harrison has publicly dismissed the plan as not serious, arguing that it relies too heavily on wind and solar power and would result in the loss of at least 1,400 jobs.
These events occur as the provincial legislature works through a spring session dominated by a deficit budget and ongoing discussions regarding health care and addiction treatment legislation. The chamber, which recently appointed Pauline Wagner as its 140th chair of the board in January 2026, continues to provide these forums for local business owners to engage directly with provincial representatives.
