Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Regina, warning residents of a major spring storm that will bring intense winds and precipitation to the region. The system is expected to begin affecting the area on Wednesday evening, May 13, 2026, with the most severe conditions lasting through Thursday.
The weather system, which is developing in Alberta, will move across the province through Friday. Residents should prepare for southerly winds starting at 80 km/h, which will shift to westerly winds sustained at 70 km/h with gusts reaching 110 km/h. According to meteorologists, these conditions may cause damage to roofs, fences, and other outdoor structures, while also making travel difficult for high-sided vehicles.
Environment Canada meteorologist Dan Fulton described the upcoming conditions, noting, “It’s not going to be a very pleasant day at all Thursday for much of the province. As it moves in, it winds up pretty good and drops quite a bit of moisture, and also gives us some pretty strong winds.”
While the strongest gusts are expected to drop below 90 km/h by Thursday evening, officials say the winds will remain strong throughout Friday. In addition to the wind, parts of the province can expect between 20 and 40 mm of rain by Friday night, with a possibility of thunderstorms in some areas.
