Regina will once again serve as the national hub for senior athletes after the city officially won the bid to host the 2028 Canada 55+ Games. The event, which takes place August 21-24, 2028, will bring approximately 2,000 athletes from every province and territory to the city.
The successful bid was announced on April 20, 2026, by the City of Regina, in partnership with the Regina Hotel Association and Tourism Saskatchewan. The event marks a homecoming for the games, as Regina hosted the inaugural Canada 55+ Games in 1996.
Venues across the city, including the REAL District, will host the competition. The games feature 15 mandatory sports, such as track and field, swimming, curling, golf, tennis, and pickleball, alongside six optional events.
Organizers expect the influx of 2,000 participants to provide a significant boost to local hotels and businesses. While the event is still two years away, officials noted that registration and volunteer opportunities for residents will open in the coming months.
