The Rural Municipality of Sherwood, Saskatchewan, has released the plan for its meeting on March 2, 2026, which features a proposal for a massive new computer data centre. This meeting gives local residents a chance to look at the details of the project before any final decisions are made by the council later this month.
Bell Canada is looking to build a 65-hectare campus south of the Saskatchewan Polytechnic campus. The project, called the Bell AI Fabric, would involve building several large facilities for artificial intelligence on land that has traditionally been used for agriculture.
Local neighbours have voiced concerns about how much water and electricity the site will need, as well as the noise it might make. While Regina Mayor Chad Bachynski is excited about the tech hub, the rural council is weighing those benefits against the concerns of local taxpayers.
The discussions from this meeting will help the council make a final decision during their next meeting on March 16, 2026. The Rural Municipality of Sherwood also noted that its online systems will be down for a software update on March 3 and March 4, 2026.
