The City of Regina, Saskatchewan, will resume weekly collection for green food and yard waste carts starting on April 6, 2026. This change gives residents more frequent pickups for their organic waste as warmer weather arrives to help manage yard trimmings and kitchen scraps.
Weekly green cart pickup occurs every year during the warm months from April to October. During the colder months between November and March, the city collects the carts every two weeks.
The food and yard waste service is part of a plan to keep 65 per cent of residential waste out of the local landfill. City officials estimate this will save 24,000 tonnes of waste each year by turning material like grass and leaves into compost.
Since January 1, 2024, the cost for waste services has been funded by a user fee on the city utility bill instead of property taxes. The program is mandatory for residents and aims to help the community reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
