Residents of Salt Spring Island are invited to celebrate Pride month with a community dance featuring the band Queer As Funk on June 6, 2026. The event, hosted by ArtSpring, will take place at the centre located at 100 Jackson Avenue.
The celebration is organized by the ArtSpring RoundTable Committee, a volunteer group focused on creating community-driven programming. Attendees are invited to a potluck starting at 7:00 p.m., which will be followed by two hours of music and dancing beginning at 8:00 p.m.
Queer As Funk, a Vancouver-based band formed in 2013, is known for their high-energy performances of funk, soul, and Motown classics. The group previously performed on the island as the headliner for the 2024 Pride Dance at the Salt Spring Pride Festival, organized by Diverse and Inclusive Salt Spring Island (DAISSI). The band released their debut studio album in 2024.
This all-ages event is available by donation to ensure it remains accessible to all community members. It serves as an additional opportunity for residents to gather during Pride month, separate from the main festival activities typically organized by the local 2SLGBTQIA+ society.
