On March 11, 2026, BC Hydro crews restored electricity to more than 2,400 customers on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, following a series of service disruptions. The outages began just before 1:00 PM and impacted homes and businesses in several different parts of the island.
The utility provider reported three separate power failures that took place between 1:00 PM and 2:30 PM. These included one incident affecting roughly 850 customers and two other outages that impacted 1,277 and 1,132 customers respectively.
During the power loss, officials advised residents and drivers to use caution while travelling. Specifically, drivers were told to treat all uncontrolled intersections as four-way stops to ensure road safety.
As of March 12, 2026, power has been fully restored to those affected by the outages. BC Hydro is currently investigating the cause of the failures to determine what led to the loss of service.
