Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, will host a public discussion on March 13, 2026, to help older residents live safely and independently in their own homes. The event, titled “Aging in Place on Salt Spring: Enhancing Senior Vitality,” takes place from 11 am to 1 pm in room 06 at the SIMS building, located at the former middle school.
This session is part of the ASK Salt Spring forum, which is a community meeting held every Friday. The discussion focuses on improving the dignity and safety of seniors while identifying ways the community can provide better care for its aging population.
The meeting format includes a group circle with grounding rituals and a land acknowledgment. Seniors, caregivers, and volunteers are invited to share their personal experiences and brainstorm practical solutions for the island during large and small group reflections.
According to the Salt Spring Exchange, local service providers from the health, transportation, and housing sectors will also attend. These representatives will offer expert advice and listen to the needs of residents to create a list of specific actions that can be started locally.
