A 52-year-old man was arrested in Sarnia, Ontario, on May 17, 2026, following a brief standoff at his home involving specialized police units. Timothy Chidley was taken into custody after officers from the Sarnia Police Service surrounded his residence to execute an arrest related to allegations that he broke court-ordered conditions.
According to police, Chidley had visited a location he was prohibited from attending on May 15, 2026, where he allegedly communicated with an individual he was also barred from contacting. When officers arrived at his home two days later, they deployed the Emergency Response Team and a K-9 unit, which includes police dogs Vader and Shadow, to secure the scene. Chidley eventually established communication with officers and surrendered without incident.
No injuries were reported during the operation. Chidley was held for a bail hearing and later released with conditions; he is currently facing two counts of failing to comply with court orders.
This arrest occurred the same week the police department announced that Chief Derek Davis has been suspended with pay. The Sarnia Police Service Board stated the suspension is pending an independent investigation into a workplace harassment complaint, with Deputy Chief Michael VanSickle serving as Acting Chief while the process is underway.
