Sarnia Police Constable Shawn Urban was recently presented with the 2026 community relations award for his long history of service to the public in Sarnia, Ontario. The award was given by the Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire during a ceremony held on February 21, 2026.
Urban is a 28-year veteran of the police force and currently leads efforts to stop impaired driving. Since 2024, he has also been responsible for rebuilding the police dog program alongside his partner, a dog named Vader.
The award comes after the organization took a one-year break from the presentation in 2025 to mark its 125th anniversary. The recognition highlights the officer’s work in building relationships with local youth and community groups.
As part of the honour, Urban received a $300 cash prize. He donated the full amount to the Sarnia and District Humane Society, where he also helps train animals.
