The City of Spruce Grove, Alberta, marked its 40th anniversary as a city on March 1, 2026, with a community party for local families. The event was held at Heavy Metal Place and featured music, skating, and a fireworks show to celebrate four decades of growth.
Attendees took part in horse-drawn carriage rides and viewed heritage displays that showed the history of the area since it transitioned from a town to a city in 1986. The celebration also included various giveaways and a fireworks finale that began at 7:00 p.m. to conclude the festivities at 7:30 p.m.
The party took place at the community’s newest recreation facility, which opened in May 2025 and features a library branch along with two ice rinks. Just a few days before the event, the city also introduced a new brand look to represent the modern identity of the municipality.
The Spruce Grove City Centre Business Association expected the large crowd to provide a boost for local shops and restaurants. According to Invest Spruce Grove, the event was poised to increase foot traffic for businesses in the downtown core and nearby shopping areas throughout the day.
