Spruce Grove City Council has voted to lower the proposed property tax increase for 2026, bringing the rate down from 4.68 per cent to 3.99 per cent. The City of Spruce Grove approved this change during the Spring Budget Adjustment on April 13, 2026, providing relief to local taxpayers as cost of living remains a significant concern.
The reduction was made possible by stronger-than-expected growth in the community. Recent data from the city administration shows property assessment growth reached 4.99 per cent, which is higher than the original forecast of 4.12 per cent. This growth, combined with an additional $70,000 in building permit revenue, generated an extra $438,447 in tax income for the city.
Mayor Jeff Acker stated that the adjustment is a direct way to support residents. He noted that the city’s continued growth reflects its appeal as a place for families to live and for businesses to invest. Spruce Grove has seen significant expansion recently, reaching a population of 44,575 in 2025 and leading all municipalities in the Edmonton area for population growth since 2021.
The original budget, approved in December 2025, had set the tax increase at 4.68 per cent, which would have resulted in a monthly cost increase of $11.02 for an average residential property valued at $429,708. City officials confirmed that this lower tax rate is part of a broader budget plan that also funds several local infrastructure and service projects, including traffic signal upgrades on Highway 16A, creek bed erosion maintenance, and support for youth services.
