Spruce Grove City Council approved the 2026 Spring Budget Adjustment on April 13, 2026, a move that reduces the planned tax increase for residents while funding new community resources. Thanks to stronger than expected growth and development revenue, the city has lowered the tax rate increase from the 4.68 per cent approved in December 2025 to 3.99 per cent.
The additional revenue is being put toward local service improvements. The city will fund three new staff positions and add a new resource under the RCMP contract to help manage increasing service demands. These investments come as the community continues to expand rapidly, having officially surpassed 40,000 residents last year.
During the same meeting, the council also passed business tax bylaws to support the City Centre. The City Centre Business Improvement Area, which operates under Bylaw C-966-16, will continue its work through a balanced $45,000 budget for 2026. This initiative is funded by a special levy added to local business tax assessments to help drive growth in the area.
Council also moved forward with land-use planning for several growing neighbourhoods. Readings were held for new bylaws related to redistricting in Easton, Tonewood, and Greenbury. Easton, a 140-acre Qualico Communities project located along Highway 16A and Pioneer Road, is currently planned to include 1,000 homes and 27 acres of commercial space. The city has also integrated zero side yard housing options for single detached residences in Greenbury, Easton, and Copperhaven to accommodate the ongoing development.
